From the Des Moines Playhouse:

The Des Moines Playhouse announced its 105th year of live theatre on Monday, Mar. 6, 2023. The 2023-24 Season includes six musicals plus drama, comedy, and shows for the entire family. John Viars Theatre season tickets are on sale now. Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre season tickets will go on sale in April. Season tickets can be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com and at The Playhouse ticket office.

The 2023-24 John Viars Theatre Season at The Playhouse opens with a tale of love and music, Once. The rest of the season includes All Is Calm, the story of the Christmas Truce of 1914; the classic American play Our Town; hit Broadway musical, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical; a murder-mystery-comedy play-within-a-play, The Play That Goes Wrong; and a summer musical that will be announced later this month.

The Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre at The Playhouse includes shows adapted from classic and contemporary children’s literature. The 29th children’s theatre season will delight audiences of all ages with Seussical TYA, The Secret Garden – Spring Version, and Dragons Love Tacos. Construction on the Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre will begin in the summer, so Seussical performances will be in the John Viars Theatre.

The Playhouse will also present High School Musical Jr. as its second Penguin Project show. The Penguin Project is a national non-profit organization creating opportunities for young artists with special needs to participate in community theatre and share their creative talents.

School matinees will be offered for Seussical TYA; The Secret Garden – Spring Version; and Dragons Love Tacos.

The Playhouse’s mission, as one of Iowa’s largest and oldest producing theatres, is to create extraordinary, shared experiences through live theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.

Shows remaining in the current, 2022-23 Season are The Hundred Dresses, on stage now through Mar. 12, 2023; Kinky Boots, Mar. 17-Apr. 2, 2023; How I Became a Pirate, Apr. 21-May 7, 2023; Native Gardens, June 2-18, 2023; and Little Shop of Horrors, July 14-30, 2023.
